Playa Zicatela Guide
Zicatela Beach: Ride the Mexican Pipeline! Guide
Welcome to Playa Zicatela, Puerto Escondido's legendary surfing beach! Known worldwide for its powerful waves and the famous "Mexican Pipeline," Zicatela is a must-visit for experienced surfers seeking a thrilling challenge. Even if you're not a surfer, the beach offers a vibrant atmosphere, stunning sunsets, and a chance to witness the incredible skill of surfers tackling these massive waves. Zicatela's reputation as a surfing mecca dates back to the 1960s when adventurous surfers discovered its potential. The beach's unique underwater topography creates consistently large and powerful waves, making it a favorite spot for international surfing competitions. While the waves are best left to the pros, the beach itself is a lively hub with numerous restaurants, bars, and shops lining the shore. Beyond surfing, Zicatela offers plenty of activities. Take a stroll along the beach, soak up the sun, or enjoy a refreshing drink at one of the many beachfront bars. Watch the sunset – it's truly spectacular! For the adventurous, consider taking a surfing lesson (if you're a beginner, stick to the calmer areas) or simply enjoy watching the pros in action. The beach is also known for its vibrant nightlife, with many bars and clubs staying open late. As for culinary delights, be sure to try the fresh seafood, especially the grilled fish tacos, a local favorite.
